Dec. 1, 5-9 pm ONLY in Black Mountain NC

It's Holly Jolly in Black Mountain NC...where stores are open late, and many offer refreshments.  Music and caroling is heard along the streets.

Sepia Saturday gives this marketplace view...

Friday evening the pottery students are selling their work at very reasonable prices in a sales area, contributing to the Black Mountain Center for the Arts.

Waiting for the customers to arrive,  playing with a mirror!

Here's a video with children and other musical contributions from Black Mountain Holly Jolly 2016.

There's always a music program on the first floor of the Center for the Arts, but the Gallery and sales room on the second floor are what I'd recommend. Yes, I'll be there, and I hope that this year is very successful!

The Gallery has beautiful work by the students and teachers on display from Dec 1, 2017 through Feb. 1, 208. The following are some of the work that was displayed last year.

Today's quote:

For many years, at great cost, I traveled through many countries, saw the high mountains, the oceans. The only things I did not see were the sparkling dewdrops in the grass just outside my door.
Rabindranath Tagore

  1. I love going to student sales, their creative spirits are unencumbered and the work is so unique.

    1. Yes, and all our students are adults. Unfortunately many of their ideas come from Pinterest.

  2. Best wishes for a successful show! I love the Tagore quote. I have done a fair amount of traveling in the past but now I'm happy to concentrate on the dewdrops outside my door!

    1. You've got good taste...they were made by our teacher/studio manager, Charles Freeland. I can't wait to see what he has this year on display in the gallery...I think they are coming out of the kiln today!

  4. Some beautiful and interesting pieces here. Good luck with the show. But if it's going to go through Feb. 1st, 208 you're going to need a time machine. :)

    1. Good catch...I think I'll just leave it however, and see if anyone else wonders how pots were made in the second century. Probably pretty much in the same way!

    3. Thanks Jo...it was a good evening, mainly the camaraderie of 14 potters in the same room with their wares.

  5. It seems like the original "12 days of Christmas" has now expanded to 37 days at least. Room for "14 Potters throwing!"

  6. Thanks for good wishes from you Sepia Saturday (Sepians) folks. And other friends as well! I was happy to see some of the different areas of my life overlap, with one of my new friends at the Senior Lunch program coming to Holly Jolly to see my pots! That was a plus for me. Yes Mike, there are many more "days of Christmas" these days. I do like a "Room for 14 potters throwing!"
