Moving boxes etc.

Moving wares around - simple crates were often used for moving produce, or pottery (wrapped often in strips of wood shavings).

I spent some time in 2007 with one of my first digital cameras capturing folks' cars' rear windows, which included some interesting things being carried around.

Many a spring day when living near a college will see bits of furniture being carted around.

Some interesting looking ladders as well as a big box in this pickup.  I especially like the red and white truck with the ad for some real estate saying on it's back panel to "Turn Right Here."

All the folks who take dogs for a ride, will appreciate this "Fido" on display.

OK, this is a stretch from the theme of moving boxes, but many a Florida vehicle will have something that goes in the water attached to it.

Notice clothes on hangars in the window of this camping van.  Since I lived several times in my life in a van, I can appreciate that this tiny space did afford a place to hang clothes, but I put a curtain on my windows at least!

A barrel is just as good for moving things, especially liquids.  Did you remember what a barrel maker was called of old? A cooper. There's your trivia for today.

A utility repair van has everything squeezed in, utilizing all the space to have everything that can possibly be needed for the job.

I'll leave you with this sad looking (but probably very happy) dog.

I've shared these moving photos for Sepia Saturday for this week, though they are only 10 years old.  It was one of those fun things I notice.  How about you?

Our theme image this week shows a man with a wooden box. Whoever the man is, he doesn't seem happy with life and maybe that could be a potential theme you would like to explore. There again ,there are boxes, men with bowler hats, and .... boxes. The photograph comes from the Flickr Commons collection of the National Library of Ireland, but for whatever reason it has now been withdrawn from Flickr - perhaps it was making everyone a little too miserable.

How quickly...

our lives fly...
like a butterfly.

This sweet Monarch said goodbye to me when I went through my old cottage for its inspection after I moved out.  I have now lived in an apartment for seniors for a bit over a year.  I'm really happy here.  It is great to have my income match my out-go for a change.  It is a nice building, the interior is really well designed and in good condition.  I don't spend much time on the grounds, except to go get in the car, or come home.

My neighbors are all nice people, with the exception of one who is gruff and demanding.  But you could expect that anywhere.

Enjoy your Saturday.  I'm going over to see those Mud Buddies in the park behind the Baptist Church this morning.  Then I'll probably make some more pottery!

On habits

There are the kind of habits which make our lives easier, in that we can be thinking of something else while we step into our slacks with one foot first rather than the other, or put that sock on first, or even brush our teath on that side first...easy going habits.

Then there are the ones that just evolve over time and then we notice that they don't work any more.

This morning I realized how much my morning routine followed the demands of my pets.  And how I had a habit of sitting at the computer with my sweet Muffin demanding more and more as the years went by.  I of course provided what I could, and received a warm lap buddy some of the time.  Now that she can no longer wake me up, her sister-in-kind does, in her very own manner.

As Panther steps on my hair on the pillow then settles in to purr and sleep on top of my head, I am reminded of all those meows and pats and even claws on skin that Muffin would give me.  And when Panther doesn't want to sit on my lap any more, I wonder if she only used to do it because I liked it.  She has a claw problem, and has to be very careful about how any fabric can catch her claws.  I love waking up with my pet demanding my help.  It makes me have a good reason to get out of bed on dreary mornings.

But back to topic.

Bad habits are such that we receive no benefit, unless it's possibily an immediate gain with a long-term-pain attached to it.  Good habits are those that our mothers tried so hard to instaill in us.

The trick is to see which ones are worth keeping, at least to see that we have them.

That's one good thing about recently moving...I'm setting up some new habits...routines which I didn't have before.  And obviously leaving behind some as well.

There are still too many tuperware tubs of things in my small home.  I have habitually ignored them.  But since I try to not be a hoarder...(she tells herself frequently) I must work to combat the "save it you might need it later" attitude.

Off I go to try to live more intentionally.  Wish me luck!

Last rose

The day I moved to my new apartment I took this, wondering if it would open, and who would enjoy it.

Then my mail didn't get forwarded for the first 2 weeks, so I went by the old cottage to look in the old mailbox, and saw what had happened to the bud!  Incidentally I've had the mail-forward-order at the Post Office since Oct. 3, and have received not one piece of mail forwarded yet (Oct 19.)  When I asked at our post office they said my address is good.  Wonder what is going own with my mail.

The last rose moved into the new apartment.

Quote for the day:

What I've been making while moving

Painting the glaze of butterflies again...

Some nice big mugs with butterflies came out of the kiln today.  This one is a male too.  (look at blog a couple of days ago if you missed learning the tailtell signs.)

Bigger mugs for those who like to drink a big hot cup of anything!

A dear friend gifted me with a recycled love seat...which fits in beautifully with my new decor.

Yesterday was a red-letter day since I finally opened all the boxes (those which I hadn't labelled) and shifted some to appropriate rooms/spaces to be organized.  The real plus was finding the box which held my spices which was labelled but pushed to the back of the shelves.  Ah.  I'd missed them, and will be spending some time putting them in nice neat rows on turntables in the cabinet next to the stove.
