Christina Cordova

Ms. Cordova has taught sculpture at Penland and has been featured in various clay magazines. She's even had a few things at local pottery shows. I LOVE her work.

This piece was displayed in a corner at the Asheville Art Museum when we visited last month (or maybe the month before.)

Here's an article from the Asheville Laurel.

I've been very fortunate to visit several galleries featuring her work.

A second dragon-girl

Here are 2 view before the stain was applied and a cone 6 firing.

Stain applied, before firing.

Again, I'm disappointed with this stain of maganese oxide. I think I'll go back to a thinned black glaze wash.

I'll do a bit more staining with acrylics. Fortunately sculptures can have paint applied to help me have my vision accomplished.

So as soon as I get a chance, I'll work on both the dragon-girls and then think about where I can show them. They won't go on a table where customers pick up bowls and mugs, that's for sure!

Side twist for yoga cat

Back view (if possible, but there's the tail) of side twist

Front view of side twist

Bisque, and now to glaze..

Clear glaze, because after all, it's the shape of this gal doing this twist!

and the final look is...

Tree pose...cat style

Lazy? No. But a feline knows where a balance is possible, and where it is not!

See how a cat would do the tree pose, sitting of course!

Yay, out of the bisque kiln, now to be glazed!

What color shall a "sitting tree pose" be?

The choice is black!  And now to see how it comes out!

...cats do it better!

Downward facing cat

After bisque firing, the tail is still on her!

Nutmeg glaze has been applied and now into the hotter kiln next week!

Yoga cats continuing

When I spend about an hour working, I can create a new little form.  I need more time to refine the forms already made...so it's a process.  I forgot how things just keep adding up in the studio.  Start one thing, work on yesterday's, and last week's etc.

I love talking about these guys, and other yoga folks ask, "can you do that?" It's a challenge, but after doing a head stand, nothing is impossible!

Starting a new series in clay

Last week I took the plunge, and signed up for working in  the clay studio again.  I've been just going in once a week while dealing with breathing problems.  My goal is to put in an hour a day for the first week.  And on Friday morning I stopped wearing the little mask to keep dust and mold from my lungs.  I may go back to it if I feel I need it.

So I've been wanting to do something new, fun, not very difficult, and pleasing.

"Cats doing Yoga"

Yep.

Here is the first effort...and I still will do some refining, then have to get it dry and bisque fired...then worry about how to glaze ...
