Red House docent

This Sunday (with sun shining and lots of wind) I'm ensconced at the welcoming desk at the Red House Gallery and studios.  I was all alone for the first 2 hours, and the next one made up for it...already 20 people have come through at just 1 pm.  So I may post some photos, and answer questions, and maybe even sell a few things for the artists.

We are open until 3 pm today (Sunday) and there's a class with a live model at 2-5...so students will be busy after I leave.

I'll post more Red House photos this week.  The theme is All Creatures Great and Small. It's up until May 6th.

Fun with glazes

What happens when you drip different studio glazes first from bottom to top, then from top to bottom? Of course you need to be carful at the base of the pot that nothing will drip onto the kiln shelf.  Lots of drip lovers have had glazes dripping too far lately...but this one made it just barely.

Hair and pottery

I have to have my hair cut every once in a while, now that it's short.  It's too thin for me to try to do anything with it when it's long (as I found out last winter.)

I'm thrilled that my hairdresser also has a bit of a gallery.  He is welcoming to artists of different venues.  For now I'm kind of the potter.

A few of my pots at "Cutting Crew."

It helps to sell a pot or two to compensate for a good haircut.  I'm pretty happy with both!

Men's heads on tree of life

There are 2 of them, one bald (indicating wise old age perhaps?) and one with hair.  I call one of them Daddy and the other Patrick Stewart.  You can figure it out.

Dog looks a lot like a pig today!

Finally out of a glaze kiln

At 3 pm on March 19, 2019.  It was tall, so had to wait for other tall pieces to be loaded in the kiln.  So it missed a couple of glaze firings.  It will only be glazed somewhat with black stain, so no big surprises probably!  By the time I publish this, I can add a finished series.

Update: It's done and photos below show it as of March 20 evening!

If you're asking, "why does she make these strange reptilian/prehistoric bird/dinosaur creatures?"
I'd answer, because they just come out that way...I don't pre-plan how they are going to look.  Ugly is in the eye of the beholder, just as beauty is...don't you think?

I do think it deserves better photos with plain backdrops!

Critter heads on tree of life

Tomorrow I'll feature the dog and men's heads! Some shots are out of focus...and this is just the first stage of creativity.  Now to dry, then bisque fire, then glaze (oh my what shall I do then?) and glaze fire.  Come back in 3-4 weeks for final product.

Living heads or tree of life

Just about finishing up on a sculpture that has been more process than any organized goal to look a certain way.  It just sort of evolved.

No, don't think of that alien living inside the man's chest from some old sci-fi movie.  These heads are all poking out of a tree...sort of.

Critters at the Red House

In the trio of long-necked critters, here's a dragon...

 And of course a giraffe!

And a dragon with wings tinted with gold!

 And why not gold teeth?

I showed this critter before as it was waiting to be fired...and a comment said "Feed Me!" Thus it has been named.  I had just called it "Only a mother could love it" or "Ugly Bird Baby."

Still throwing

Some simple forms thrown on the wheel last week.  Here they are ready for the bisque kiln.  On the round shape I tried carving out some floral designs.
