She sold!

 I went to pick up a ceramic that had been part of the last show at the Red House Gallery. We couldn't find it anywhere. They said that usually meant it had sold recently, and they'd check with the woman who sent out checks. She'd been out of town, so checks had been delayed a bit.

I went home, not worried about it.

And got a phone call in no time, yes she'd been sold! Well that was nice news.

And I'd already volunteered to sit at the desk to welcome visitors to the next show, where I won't have anything displayed. I'll have to read the prospectus so I can explain it to visitors. Something based on a feather, I believe.

Would you like me to take photos of the works in that show? Of course you would!

Going to the show

 I keep coming back to female figures, whether from mythology or just my own ideas.

 This Moon Dancer will be at my next show.

I haven't decided on a price for her yet.  That's another decision to be made!

Enjoying life

You have to just know because you can't really see the little mama bird sitting on her nest in that darkest place in the planter.  Later I looked and saw tiny little bird mouths waiting for her to return to feed them.

 Diamond was somewhat curious about butterflies.

I was unable to get this swallowtail in focus any better drat!

Moon dancer 4

A new technique...let's try carving, then using dark glazes to highlight (or is it lowlight?) the lines.

This bisque ware piece is somewhat pink, but will turn ivory when fired to cone 5-6.  There is a coat of matt clear on the moon and the dancer, and the rest of the vase, except for the lower carved details.

 After the glaze firing, the matt clear glaze all over seems fine, except where it interacts with the thin remains of the black stain...then there's a brownish tint.  Otherwise, I kind of like it.

 The concave face is interesting, but next time I think I won't do a double curve as well as all that carving.  Well, it was all experimental!

Moon Dancer Three

First as she was drying, waiting for second stage.

I waxed the edges of smaller parts as she dries...hoping that they will all dry more evenly that way.  She is totally hollow, including head and arms.  I've got a few more things to do in the next stages, of course.  First a bisque (cone 05), then to add some glazes or stains.  Then a higher firing to cone 5-6, and then to glue on a couple of crystals on her skirt area.

She's bisqued, waiting for some stain to bring out carving details.

 I'm not using glaze as a final surface, but rubbing it into the details so they will "pop" a bit more...with black glaze.

I'll let you see her, hopefully before Christmas!
