My display in Marion

I sold the two large dragon/dinosaur sculptures, and a few medium size things, and a few small things. Made my expenses! But it was not a good sales day for me.

My display before the customers arrived. The last of my poppy painted bowls and plates will probably go into my kitchen. I love to use bright things for eating. Since my finger muscles keep me from painting that glaze detail any more, I'll not be making any more.

There are only a few people who come to this market in the afternoon to shop...most of the real connoisseurs of pottery want to get there early and get the best deals.

Off to the Appalachian Pottery Market

So I'm spending the day doing what many potters do, watching folks look at my pots, pick them up, look at the price, put them down. And sometimes they come to me and exchange some "green energy" for the pot, which I then wrap in tissue and a bag and thank them. Of course it means being nice, and smiling a lot.

There's just one problem with that. I broke the filling I had in my front tooth...so I have a gap. I'm snaggletooth! It looks really lame. I do have an appointment, the first available, in 2 weeks. In the meantime, I just try the toothless-smile. Right.

 These little goodies have been priced and wrapped somewhat into tubs.

Some of these didn't get into a tub...but most of them did.  And I'm hoping half of them don't come home with me either!

You may have seen these before, but I finally got them on the black background...so these are the official photos. Maybe they will go home with you from the Appalachian Pottery Market this Sat, Dec. 1, 10-4 in the McDowell High School in Marion, NC.

Going to the show

 I keep coming back to female figures, whether from mythology or just my own ideas.

 This Moon Dancer will be at my next show.

I haven't decided on a price for her yet.  That's another decision to be made!

Here's hoping your season of spooky fun is enjoyable,  and that those who take it seriously also have satisfaction in honoring their ancestors, communing with the dead, and gathering for community.

There's a pottery show I'm getting ready for.  I have to limit my participation to indoor shows...just the limitations of this old body these days.

Here are the two photos I sent to Marion Arts Council for their brochure which is printed for the benefit of the customers.

This is for the Appalachian Pottery Show in McDowel High School the first Saturday of December.  Which happens to be Dec. 1.

Hope you can come if you're in the area.  There's a fee of $5 to browse some of the best pottery around...in the comfort of being indoors!

In the meantime, I'm preparing for a show in Owen Middle School right here in Black Mountain the following Saturday, Dec. 8.

 There at the door is the line starting to wait for the opening, while potters still arrange things, and some of the organizers stand in the middle of the cafeteria just before 10 am.

 So glad to meet a fellow friend from Facebook (and perhaps a blogger as well) Cat Jarosz

This was Michelle Soule's first time at this sale, after I encouraged her to display her Ikebana and angels...which were quite lovely.

 Just as people started to come into the gym, I climbed to the balcony (where one of the entrances for customers was) and took a quick shot of the layout.

 Then things got busy for a couple of hours!

 Cathy would explain to those who were interested how her berry bowls worked with a saucer/lid.

 After a box lunch, I was happy to sit down for a while.

And now it is several days later, and I've recovered (mostly) from the long day.  I even did a bit of book shopping for gifts today.  Now how can I give them if I haven't read them first? (They are used in the first place...which is how I can afford to give them for gifts this year.)

Did I mention I'll be at the Owen Middle School sale (Black Mountain) this Sat, Dec. 9, from 10-4...sharing a booth with Sally Smith this time.  It's my first time at this venue, and I'm excited to be part of it.
