Another vase

This is the second vase which is at least 4 years old, since I quit the studio in December before COVID hit. No idea what was ahead but I felt I'd done as much as I wanted to at the time, in clay.

I gave away many of my pots to friends and relatives in the last 4-5 years. But my house is still full of them. Thus I will go back into retail sales again soon.

This simple squat pot looks great with a few or a lot of posies in it. It was glazed with the same techniques as the little bottle vase I posted earlier.

Art is alive and well in Black Mountain NC

Yesterday I visited the clay studio at Black Mountain Center for the Arts...and said hello to a few of my old clay buddies. I didn't stay long, but was glad to see 6 or so people working masked at wheels and tables doing their creative thing.

I also picked up some checks from sales in the little office shop. I have just a few more pieces there, and since I'm not working in clay these days, I was grateful that they are keeping them there. I won't add any more at this time.

And I looked at the gallery show, in which I have one piece.

I'll share other pieces as long as this exhibit is up...I think only till Oct 23.

A vase donated

A church fundraiser will have donations to be bid upon in an auction next Saturday (Nov 9) evening.  I'm taking a vase over to give them, and hope that someone will take it home after paying some lovely price for it, which will help build a playground!

More ceramic art

A strange matt greyish purple glaze on a fluid twisted vase makes this beautiful piece more subtle than others displayed at the Red House Gallery.  But just think about how the twists in this pot were made. And the elegant curved little handles.  I found this more pleasing to look at the more I studied it.

Something old, something new...

No not about to be a bride.  Just wanted to share that old pots can hold new flowers!

And I finally finished the fruit bowl.

Centerpiece bouquet in a short bowl shaped vase.  I'm so glad I still have a few of these. Strangely they don't sell half as well as tall thin vases...something about just shoving flowers into a vase rather than making an arrangement!

When a vase has a face...

Once again I've made a face, or a vase. Or somehow a Victorian lady popped out of the vase I'd thrown.

I added torn pieces of slab to make the vase taller. Then I made a face, and gave her frills of more torn slab pieces.

You may note that she's not completely finished.  There's a touch of white to be added in the eyes...to give the sense of light being reflected, instead of the dead look they have now.

So as soon as I do that, I'll post the final photo...here.

Incidentally, I may try to show this in a juried show that is being held in July. I want to have something that is more than just a decorative piece of pottery. Leaning toward Fine Arts, don't you know?

And PS for the last 4 posts about the show at the Red House Gallery...there are many more pieces that I didn't photograph, so I encourage anyone in the area to drop in and look at them...

The wedding vase

To be used for the CELEBRATION.  My son helped design it,since the theme is black and white. He also liked the "mobius strips" or infinity symbols.

Another requirement was that it be heavy enough to not be easily knocked over by a cat. No problem!

I think they liked it. The plan (for tonight) is to put the bridal bouquet into it for the reception.

O'Keeffe style poppies again

Now I've done a vase, which still has a bit of Georgia O'Keeffe's style...and is pretty brilliant (meaning the colors are vibrant!)

I started with these 4 medium size mugs. All my mugs have Celtic Cross thumb knobs.

The same mug next to the vase.

The vase can certainly stand alone, or have some great green stems of flowers coming out of it...what do you think?

Everything is hand painted, while looking at an O'Keefe painting.  Dishwasher, and food safe.

Got flowers?

Did you miss this?

And here's a great mural celebrating a potter (not right here in Black Mountain, NC, but in Strasburg.)
