Annette Corcoran

A fantastic woman ceramic artist, who I just discovered. Annette Corcoran appeared in Facebook last year, and I was surprised to see it return in my "memories" listing today. I didn't remember showing these beautiful teapots last year, sharing another's post.

When I went to her web page, 2017 was the latest update...with these beautiful works. I know she was in her 80s (like me today) and hope she is well. What a talented artist in clay!

Today's quote:

This is a time for straying, for losing one’s way, for asking new questions. A sacred activism. A slowing down that knows enchantment is not in short supply.

Some of my work on display

Art by the Tracks today! I hope this finds you in good health, and especially that we're having a dry day today for all the artists selling our wares down by the Depot Gallery in Black Mountain NC...all along Sutton Ave.

Wish me luck that I don't have to bring home all these sweet friends.

Well, a couple that I've grown fond of would be alright...but just a few, ok?

Ongoing Teapots

Bisqued Little Loafers Teapot with Mishima style bees

Add some yellow and black stripes and little dots

Adding a coat of clear over the dots of Designer Liner, I found the dots streaking.  STOP.  Dry them for a few hours first.

So I did.  Then finished the clear glaze gently without any more streaking.  Then waxed over the whole area...
Then dipped and poured matt black over the whole rest of the teapot.
Now just to wait till it is fired.  Come back later!

second bisqued stoneware teapot

Details of flower and leaves are below the final coat of glaze
Teapot number two was then glazed in my favorite turquoise variegated combo glaze.
I also have one other teapot to work on soon, with bees somewhere on it  as well.  Then there are honey pots.  And some little tea cups.

Teapot number three

A slightly smaller size and other adjustments to the original design...as shared a couple weeks ago - HERE.
I also am going to paint the bees on after a bisque firing, instead of using Mishima technique.

I also made an even smaller version with some recycled clay, which will appear more like stoneware.
The white clay usually looks slightly creamy when finished...it's Little Loafers from Highwater Clays in Asheville.

I like using Little Loafers because it has no grog to speak of, so smoothing with a sponge gives a smooth surface rather than gritty.  It's also easy for me to throw (perhaps because I throw very dry rather than with a lot of water.)

Anyway, this is the process I've been involved with lately.

Quote for today:

Dormouse greenware

Teapot with a mouse on the lid?  You've got to be kidding!  I heard that!

Yes, a sleepy Dormouse with a bit of attitude.

I'm not only sleepy, I'm winking at ya!

The end.

We can be more like trees opening our crown to the Universe and rooting down deep with our feet into mother earth.

New Teapots

A couple of pretty teapots just came out of the kiln.
Butter Yellow with a blue liner (which only shows well on the lid.)

Some fun effects with the blue glaze!

And what better place to have butter yellow glaze...?
