While some Shelby NC residents will be coming to the opening reception at the Cleveland County Arts Council next Thursday, we dropped our pottery off, set up our displays, and came home last Thurs. during the constant rain storm.
Here are the rest of the displays.
I enjoyed her figures, with very cute names. But I missed getting the artist's name. oops.
The hanging bells were also by this same potter.
Sorry, I missed the artist's name card on this one.
I had to get a close-up of Lee's mug details!
Another long display... the lamp and mugs belong with this one.
Another view of Susan's display, showing her name plaque.
Cathy (my friend from Black Mountain who goes with me to Shelby's show) changes her set-up several times until she's satisfied.
And she took a picture of her display when it was just right.

Getting to an Art Show...
Gaia is the name I use for the goddess of mother nature.
She's in charge of trees, rivers, plants, weather and earthquakes. (Some of this has been posted today over on "When I Was 69) But here are the pictures of some of the pottery.
So when us piddly people plan an event, and Gaia has other ideas, guess who wins! The opening of the show has been postponed till next Thurs. evening. Of course the pots are already for sale.
We love the playful animals on Ron's work!
One end of my display
The other side of my 6 foot long table. I've had a few of these pieces in another show, and there are also some new ones1
I couldn't quite figure out how he used stencils (if that's how he did the designs!)
Yes, this was also part of Vicki Gill's display...she had 3 tables but they were smallish. And her pieces were kind of big!
Then there were really big pots by Doug Knotts.
This display lost power by having the beautiful fabric. It is a good lesson that plain table coverings do bring out the pottery itself.
Yes, a few more photos tomorrow.

Dragon Girl Bird
She (they) finally got finished, just in time to go to Shelby for the Art Show which will be up until March. Of course by the time you read this, we either will have gotten to Shelby in the rain, or maybe drowned in our efforts to get there. (Rain almost continual on Thurs.)

Mandala Puzzle to go to the show
I've hemmed and hawed (whatever that means) and finally decided to take the Mandala Puzzle down to the pottery show in Shelby NC Thursday.
However, this is more what our weather will be like driving down to Shelby. Rain and flooding are expected all in the areas we'll be driving...through these mountains. So the hour plus 15 minutes may take a bit longer. I don't mind that at all. And I'm ever so grateful that Tim, my good buddy who comes through in a pinch, will be doing the driving. He has a van which can hold all our set-up stuff and tubs of potter, as well as myself and friend potter, Cathy.
The unloading and bringing things inside will be wet going, if the weather man is correct. Oh well, I'll try to remember some towels in my handy dandy everything to take bag. Which I haven't packed yet. Now where is that white table cloth that I always put on the table?
Hope to see you at the Cleveland County Arts Council, Shelby, NC
It's kind of my favorite of the two which I made, but it probably is more sturdy with a board back than the other one with just a cardboard backing. When it's going to be displayed, and probably handled some for a month, I think that was a deciding factor.
It, and 3 other tubs of my pottery are going to the Cleveland County Arts Council for Treasures of the Earth.

Packing those pots
Yep, pricing, inventory listing, and wrapping in bubble wrap in tupperware tubs. That's the name of my activities for the next 24 hours or so.
I have completed one tub, with 14 pots of various types in it...and they are on the inventory sheet as well. So I'm taking a break. (I may not be taking ALL these pots, but this is my first choice batch.
My goal is to have just 3 tubs. I have to fit them in the car, either the back seat or the trunk. And I have to GET them to the car. It's not impossible. Just means carrying them out the door, carrying them down 4 steps, and loading them onto the cart (a little wonderful plastic thing which saves my back with all kinds of carrying help.) Then of course lifting them out of the cart. I believe I'll try to pack some into the car tonight, then can work on the shelving unit tomorrow!
This wonderful shelving unit comes apart, and I'll reassemble it on top of the table that is provided by the Cleveland County Arts Council in Shelby.
And I have a bowl to donate to the Empty Bowls project there.
It's so wonderful to be included in this show. I'm really looking forward to setting up Thursday and going to the reception. Hope to see some familiar faces!

Mugshot Monday and Cleveland Arts Council thanks
My new favorite mug! Can hold it with one or two fingers easily in the hole of the handle, and it has balance, and holds a big amount but keeps it warm because it's slightly concave.
A special shout out to the Cleveland County Arts Council for hosting the "Treasures of the Earth" show for the last month. I was very pleased when I went to pack up the things that hadn't sold...pleased there were about half of the ones I'd brought still there, which meant I sold about half of them... so it was just right for me! Thank you Corrine and Valerie!

Centers for the Arts...Cleveland County Arts Council NC this time!
This is my second Center for the Arts, and I really love it. (Black Mountain Center for the Arts will remain my home, where I work in their Clay Studio almost daily.)
Shelby NC is a much larger town than I thought, with 20,000 people, and a beautiful and vibrant downtown, as I visited on a Thursday afternoon and evening.
Their Cleveland County Arts Council hosted a reception for the 23rd annual Treasures of the Earth, and this year I was pleased to be part of it.
This old post office building turned art center worked very well for 25 potters, and their works in 6-10 foot displays, and guests well fed and beveraged with beer and wine. This non-alcoholic punch was off by itself, and my favorite in spite of wines and beers available (I was designated driver!)
A dear friend, Helen, went down the highways with me, and brought some good snacks, a chocolate chip, raisin and nut mix shown here. Having each artist provide snacks for 30 was a great idea, and we had some fantastic food!
Here are a few displays, not in any special order, nor showing any favorite potters!
My selfie with a "probable cousin," Violet Arth Dukes, who practically ran the whole event. Of course there were others, but I had to capture Violet with me right away! It was great to meet her finally!
My display was pretty simple, letting the decorated pottery speak for itself.
I'll post all the items that are on display there under a tab right below the header. Look for it up at top.
