A little wind and water

My little corner of life looked like this Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 1:00 pm.

My porch where I snuggled the remaining plants up against the wall in case of high winds. A whole lot of the plants are now indoors for the winter.

Thank heaven just many leaves and small branches down in our complex! My car wasn't damaged either - parked beneath a tree with branches often falling down.

Very brown water in Lake Tomahawk, where the water level had been lowered last Friday in expectation of more rain than we received from the last blow of Irma.

The Lakeview Senior Center cancelled all programs, including my Spanish class and lunch. I'd invited a friend, so we went to Wendy's instead, and found another of the seniors there who usually comes for lunch at Lakeview.

I went to the Clay Studio to pick up my 2 yellow pots which are on top shelf...but...

...Charles (manager) was busy vacuuming up the water that covered most of the floor.

The news keeps running the same clips, showing damage from hurricane Irma, which was considerable in places.

I've got my own little bit of impact, which is pretty much what can be expected from any rain storm here in Black Mountain.  I admit I was not out there with the crews chain sawing and hauling away the downed trees that blocked roads and knocked out power lines.  I'm sure that was covered in the news.

Many thanks to all the people working to help all the infrastructures to return to normal!  I do hold in my thoughts and prayers all those who were impacted more severely from this storm, as well as others!

Dabbling in the water!

Whichever way I looked last week, there were ducks and geese getting their lunches, just before I went for mine at the Lakeview Senior Center.

I will try to parse these photos out so you don't get too bored with them.  I greatly enjoyed my 20 minute walk, stopping to capture a photo and catch my breath.  A few days later, no ducks or geese, and I had to keep on truckin' all the way around the 0.55 mile path at Lake Tomahawk.

I'll share this with the Sepia Saturday gang, because after all, there are birds eating, whether pigeons or waterfowl!

Happy Christmas Day 2016

The overlapping circles of my tribes...

She's invited me to share Christmas dinner with her family today.  My own relatives are all elsewhere for the holiday, but I will be talking with them I'm sure.

Tree at the Lakeview Senior Center at Lake Tomahawk, where I eat lunch most days M-F.  I've made some new good friends while sharing lunches here for the last several months. On Tuesdays we have Spanish Conversation Classs while we eat, which is lots of fun and stimulates my grey matter!

A holiday gathering last week at the Open Studio time, of various students of the Clay Studio, Black Mountain Center for the Arts.

Women of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Swannanoa Valley, Black Mountain NC, gave an excellent program about the Goddesses of the Dark, and about women and girls reclaiming their power today  The Sahara Peace Choir sang with their leader, Annelinde Metzner (who's also the choir leader for our church.) Rebecca Williams directed the short play "Vasilisa and Baba Yaga."  I worked the sound system, and took the picture!

I've got two other groups of friends, through Social Media. One group is made of bloggers whom I read, and who sometimes read my blog, and we sometimes comment on each other's blogs. They can all be reached through the links on the right column on my blog page (link here, but you're already reading it).

The other group which is also on line are my Facebook friends.  That's a pretty flexible group, which includes my family and friends, but not all of either of those groups.

Many of these Social Media friends, I've never met in person, nor even seen their faces, nor do I even know very much about them except when we "share" together or comment on each other's postings.  So I know a few of their opinions that I have in common with them, those who "like" what I do, as well as those who rant on similar issues.

Feast at Lakeview Center

We don't pay much attention these days to the pool which is closed for the winter.

Yesterday we had a wonderful feast at the Senior lunch program...with turkey provided. We all kicked in and brought a side dish or desert.

I got there early...before this table had to have another one added to hold everything.

The desert table started out pretty slim. By the time we lined up to have 2 lines going through, all these tables had twice as much on them.

I was thrilled that everything went so smoothly.  And I was very well fed too!
