Happy Oestra, Spring Equinox

Yes, today finally there is as much daylight as nighttime. We have been dreaming of this for weeks...sharing our first blossoms together, sighing that this is so slow this year. But I looked at some of the blooms around me, and found they are within a day of when they bloomed last year.

Perhaps my yearning is what has grown longer, deeper, definitely more intense.

If I were disciplined enough to walk every day, I might have actual days through the years, but these are pretty close.

Did you know that after being picked, a few days later, these lovelies still will produce pollen, and send it out all over the house! Achoo!

Blossoms are bursting out

This week this lovely tree started to bloom.

I'm thinking a cherry blossom...

In the first spring, March 6, the Bradford Pear showed it's beauty

And downtown at the Grey Eagle statue in Black Mountain, are some beautiful white cherry blossoms going crazy this week.

The red in the background is our little caboose for display.

I liked picking a rainy day to take pictures, so there aren't sharp shadows.  But oh dear, the wind was whipping them around, so it was pretty hard to get some to stay in focus!

Spring blooms for Rosie

My neighborhood gives me a good sense of privacy.  There is landscaping which offers some beautiful blossoms this time of year.  And some of my neighbors also have some plants on their balcony railings or porches.

 Today I was introduced to the patch of Lilly of the Valley plants.

I'm sure they smell terrific, but my sinus condition makes me immune to their heady scent completely.

Finally, more walking pics...part 1

The bridge over Flat Creek near the memorial gardens leads to several trails.

These days I take the road more traveled, staying close to the creekbed and not climbing the more exciting trails that might lead to vistas on higher mountains.

A new bush (to me) has some exotic looking blooms on it.

Flowers are about 4 inches across, with gorgeous coloring in the center.  Sorry for blur.

And then I cam to another bush with similar blooms, this time in orangish pink.

Again, the blooms look to be about 3-4 inches wide.  And these are bushes that already stand about 3 feet tall.

My friends who I consulted say they are Bittersweet.  Mmm, can't wait to see the berries in the fall!

Tree blossoms in Black Mountain

Another weeping cherry, showing the brilliant pinks in the blossoms.

The two previous photos are of one dogwood tree.  The following ones come from the tree right next to it, a bit of a different color.

The greening of the mountains is happening, green leaves popping out at lower elevations first.

And my own yard has an ornamental cherry tree.

The brown-green leaves are still predominant, so I'll go out again in a few days.  One year it was so abundant with flowers you couldn't see the leaves at all, but I doubt that will happen this year.
