To sleep close to nature

I visited a wonderful retreat out in the woods of North Carolina...where you sleep in fantasy beds, or closer to nature than in a tent (almost.)

The Mountain Light Sanctuary has many choices for those who wish to retreat from busy techno life to a simple woodsy quietness.  Sometimes there are workshop-type retreats held by various spiritual groups.

My friend who introduced me to this center had to try out one of the gorgeous beds!

A stream runs by the property, with little bedroom cabins sitting over the edge of it.

Gardens, a medicine wheel, and other sweet meditation/prayer nooks are tucked away throughout the property

I'm sharing with my world-wide friends on Sepia Saturday, who have some other views of sitting rooms and boudoirs.

  1. I must admit, that is some fancy bed. I don't know what I was expecting to see in a resort dedicated to relaxation and meditation, maybe something more simple and basic rather than froo-froo. Looks like a lovely place regardless.

    1. There are LOTS of less froo-froo sleeping quarters, but I was struck by these especially, being out in the wilderness.

  2. I don't think I could sleep in one of the fancy indoor beds, but sleeping close to nature looks appealing.

    1. I don't know how many little one or two room cabins are perched next to the creek...but they are certainly outdoorsy!

    1. I posted some other photos about it before, I'll have to look for that blog.

  4. In the 5th picture down, is that a bed on the porch with netting to keep out bugs while you sleep? I'd love that one! I used to love laying down & snoozing in my deck swing for a while after dinner in the summertime - rocking slowly back & forth. So comforting - with the creek burbling away down below and the crickets and frogs serenading with their summer songs.

    1. Yes, there are lots of beds just perched here and there throughout the building, porches, platforms!

  5. Having camped in more rustic quarters, I have to say that fancy bed is appealing! Just the spot for a good night's sleep when rain is gently pattering outside.

    1. Yes, it does look more comfortable than an air mattress in a tent, doesn't it?

    1. Good catch Kristin, and it's got to be cut back all the time because it's so invasive. But it also is affording the grounds crew something interesting to work with.

  8. I'm guessing that this spa-like experience didn't happen recently in January when the outdoor temperature was in single digits? That would be a true back-to-nature resort!
