Rhododendrons ablaze

Look closely

 I never noticed that each blossom has this green underbelly before it opens!

 It looks like each of these is just a petal, but no, they are whole flowers themselves!

    We have some gardens nearby and I hope to visit there this week to see the rhodes blooming, yours are lovely.

    Beautiful! I've been happy to find that, though the blasted deer ate the lower bits of our rhododendrons, the upper story is blooming away!
