The white art vase

Another art vase.  Mostly white with accents of raspberry.

Yesterday I posted about preparations for the McDowell County Arts Council's show "Appalachian Potters Market."  Here's the link to my post and the other shows I'm going to be in in the next few months.

Peace vases or cups

Three shades of glaze, from deep green through turquoise to satin white.
The peace dove carries an olive branch offering.

Cat mugs and my vase on the poster!

You may have seen these before, but I finally got them on the black background...so these are the official photos. Maybe they will go home with you from the Appalachian Pottery Market this Sat, Dec. 1, 10-4 in the McDowell High School in Marion, NC.

I was thrilled to see my vase in the middle at the top, showing off the poppy glaze work!

Pedestal dish and 2 pitchers

I like the way the celadon glaze took the lines into different gradations...sort of like a mist descending on them.

Not sure when I decided to spell Girl with the extra 'R'...but there it is~
I imagine this pitcher will pour out some yummy drinks for a group of powerful girls at some point in its life.

The fun green pitcher has glaze variations...as well as that shiny drippy glaze at the spout and rim.

multi-colored mugs with infinity swoops, bowl vase, and mixed colors bowl

I'm slowly taking photos of most of my pieces with a black background.

It's a challenge to have black against black...which just requires lighting changes usually!

But a variety of glazes also means different amounts of reflection.  Here the reddish glaze shines and looks as a white, while the black and green are more matt.

Kali

A demon destroyer woman of high energy.

The Hindu goddess Kali is a forceful burst of fire energy...ready to remove all the things we've finished with, even if we're still attached to them.  The angry goddess, perhaps.  But also one who was asked to destroy the demons who were mutiplying with each thrust of the sword of Shakti...Kali took care of them!

Art vases

My poppy is inspired by Georgia O'Keefe's painting.

I'm not sure which artist influenced this one...

I like the idea of a vase as a stand-alone piece of art...which can be a flower receptacle as well!

Quote for today:
The period of completion, rather than being just an act of finality, is also one of transition.

Being Thankful

Happy Thanksgiving, all my American readers!

A sort of simpliflied version of Monarchs.  To add joy to someone's life as they take the first sip of the day, or the last one!

Brew some delicious hot tea in this teapot graced by Monarchs!

Today's quote:
We have thousands of opportunities every day to be grateful: for having good weather, to have slept well last night, to be able to get up, to be healthy, to have enough to eat...There's opportunity upon opportunity to be grateful; that's what life is.

Candle holder...

Flame in shape, color and attitude. Put a votive or a taper inside, and watch the shadow-play.

Black/white/grey vases

This color would really set off any bouquet!

I've been playing around with shapes and loose scalloped pieces of clay.
