The rest of Art in Bloom '24

The Plein Air paintings/drawings from the garden tour. Enlarge the photos to see the info on each work.

Margaret also had a sketch book in a binder to enjoy more of these fun captures of visitors to the garden.

Several paintings were not from the garden tour, which was surprising. But it was also interesting to note how small all these works were.

Helen Bell turned to see Lee Reading and Diane Hutchins kind of posing for me.  Sometimes you miss the moment their eyes are open and smiling! We all liked Diane's earings!

I admit I didn't take photos of all the works. Quite a few were Cynotypes, done by the same artist.

Here Jeff Hutchins on far right is considering what to photograph for a video he's making of all the Art in Bloom activities.

This was the major fund raiser for the Center for the Arts. I don't know if these paintings contributed the entire purchase price, or a percentage.

Today's quote:

What brings fulfillment is gratefulness, the simple response of our heart to this given life in all its fullness.

At Tailgate Market June 22, 2024

Hope some local folks might see this, so y'all come on over to the market this morning! It's another beautiful Black Mountain morning!

Here's a new piece I'll bring to sell at the Mud Buddies booth (a red tent)!

There will be more of similar design, which I'm calling Mountain Pottery style!

Seeing the flowers - Part Two

Though most of these photos from the gallery exhibit were taken at the very beginning of the display on Thurs. June 13, they were on  display until Saturday June 15 at 4 pm. Of course the florists had been creating their work on Thursday morning.

What surprised me was that three florists came on Saturday afternoon to "refurbish" the displays...not just their own. They told me their friends had asked them to check on their displays also. One visitor kind of made gestures like "what do you think you're doing?" and they all laughed after it was explained.

The most fun I had as a gallery docent was kind of listening in as different flowers were discussed by some really knowledgeable visitors. I was given the names of some of the flowers I'd never seen before (but alas, promptly forgot them!)

You may notice a flower that is placed low and in the front. Our florist repair crew replaced it just after the photo of their discussions.

Downstairs in the lobby, some donated vases were displayed that were also part of the fund-raising event.

Though the floral show is over, next Friday June 21 is the opening of the plein air exhibits, where paintings from the 7 gardens of the tour will be displayed.

Seeing the flowers - Part One

A show that only lasted 3 days...beautiful floral arrangements coordinated with art pieces (paintings, photographs, sculptures.) I was able to bookend my volunteer times from the start of the show, Thursday evening at the Gala party where guests had first chances to purchase the art, and enjoyed foods that were served in another room...then I was at the completion of the show on Saturday afternoon in the gallery where the temperature was kept quite low. I later figured out it was to benefit the floral displays.

This had to be my favorite floral display! And I learned the hanging ropey flower is amaranth!

Sorry about window reflections in the glass over the photograph.

Sorry, I cropped the painting. But the rest shows behind me in my selfie...

This shot doesn't do justice to the brilliant gold and reflective colors in the raku ceramic by Steven Forbes-de Soule.

I'll finish up sharing the art and flowers tomorrow.
