A tour of a brewery

A week or so ago, some seniors went for a tour of the New Belgium brewery in Asheville.

But first we visited a nice small local restaurant, White Duck Taco.  Mmm, good short order tacos!

Don't miss the fish tacos!

What fun.  We walked. We looked.  We tasted!  We walked and looked some more.

I liked learning that employees get stock in the company to make it employee owned.

Yes, some of us went down the chute!

I didn't like the staged entertainment features, where employees would gather at gaming places while we watched, only to disappear a few minutes later.  I got the impression it was more for our benefit than theirs.  Of course, it could have just been a coincidence that they were playing ping pong, or out in the sunshine just when we walked by.  They might have had their breaks at those times.

I did like the artistic touches...like hand made ceramic tiles around the vats.

And using the wood and grafiti from the old warehouse that used to be on the property...

a wall mural to remind us of where New Belgium started

I didn't fall in love with any of the beers I tasted either.  Oh well.  I'll be happy with my favorites, which are also locally made!

One of their beers is called Fat Tire!
