I found out...

Good old Wikipedia told me.
Now why didn't I look before posting my photos of the knights?  Duh.

"The staircase is one of the more prominent features of the east facade, with its three-story, highly decorated winding balustrade with carved statues of St. Louis and Joan of Arc by the Austrian born architectural sculptor, Karl Bitter."

Check out yesterday's photos for closer details of the 2 knights between the windows  HERE

  1. that's a great staircase I can just imagine walking up from the inside with the light pouring in those windows

Looking forward to hearing from you! Since I didn't know the 1000+ people who supposedly looked at my blog the other day, I'm back to moderating comments. If that doesn't help, I don't know why blogger doesn't have a filter that stops this hacking...
