On Monday I'll pick up my pot that was in the gallery exhibit (which I've shown you in 9 chapters last week.)
And on Monday I'll take in a piece (or maybe 2) for the Swannanoa Valley Fine ArtsLeague to display. But what shall I enter?
I sit here at my computer, looking at a wall of shelves full of pottery. Some of them have been displayed before.and some are just things I like, but not equal to "gallery standards."
What do I mean by gallery standards?
First it has to be pleasing to me as the artist. Many things Ive made for other people. There aren't so many of those still around...as they were either gifts or commissioned items. But the ones still around probably are kind of seconds.
and that brings me to
Second it has to be without flaws. I've got many things that had great inspiration, but the kiln gods and goddesses somehow kissed them upside the head, so they lean, or chip, or in some other way didn't come out just right.
and Third, it needs to have an "artsy" angle to it...not be just a plate, or a cup, or a piece of utilitarian pottery.
and Fourth, it has to be worthy of the price of submission and
Fifth, it has to be something I'm willing to exchange for a few dollars after the SVFAL gets their commission.
So here is what I've decided to submit to the Red House Gallery Monday!
