Art is alive and well in Black Mountain NC
Yesterday I visited the clay studio at Black Mountain Center for the Arts...and said hello to a few of my old clay buddies. I didn't stay long, but was glad to see 6 or so people working masked at wheels and tables doing their creative thing.
I also picked up some checks from sales in the little office shop. I have just a few more pieces there, and since I'm not working in clay these days, I was grateful that they are keeping them there. I won't add any more at this time.
And I looked at the gallery show, in which I have one piece.
I'll share other pieces as long as this exhibit is up...I think only till Oct 23.

At the Old Depot of Black Mountain NC
I renewed my membership with the volunteer who was working there yesterday afternoon.
Then I went grocery shopping.
And then that evening, we heard that Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died. I wrote of how much I admired her on Facebook. And for all the posts that others put out, I wrote a few comments. I'm sad, and also angry at the prospect of the government appointing her replacement before the election. And then I talked for an hour and a half with my son and his wife, who were feeling really sad and crying. I was close to it, but not as hopeless as they felt. I guess I have faith in a spiritual foundation, which they may not have...and I have a church community which includes many justice grass-roots workers.
Out of all our talking, I stressed the importance of their choosing just 3 issues of our current lives to focus upon, and to put their energies toward the needs of those 3 issues, to have a better chance of making their efforts pay off, and to not feel scattered by so many things happening. I thank my friend Byron Ballard for posing that method of being more effective, as well as more grounded.
