At the Old Depot of Black Mountain NC

These top two shelves still have mainly my pottery on them.

I like the corner cupboard display.

I renewed my membership with the volunteer who was working there yesterday afternoon.

Then I went grocery shopping.

And then that evening, we heard that Ruth Bader Ginsburg had died. I wrote of how much I admired her on Facebook. And for all the posts that others put out, I wrote a few comments. I'm sad, and also angry at the prospect of the government appointing her replacement before the election. And then  I talked for an hour and a half with my son and his wife, who were feeling really sad and crying. I was close to it, but not as hopeless as they felt. I guess I have faith in a spiritual foundation, which they may not have...and I have a church community which includes many justice grass-roots workers.

Out of all our talking, I stressed the importance of their choosing just 3 issues of our current lives to focus upon, and to put their energies toward the needs of those 3 issues, to have a better chance of making their efforts pay off, and to not feel scattered by so many things happening. I thank my friend Byron Ballard for posing that method of being more effective, as well as more grounded.

  1. Hello,

It is nice to see your pottery on display and for sale. I feel so sad, these are stressful times.
Take care and enjoy your day!

  2. I love the big bowl. Although I didn't agree with her politics Ruth Bader Ginsburg was an amazing and strong woman and should be admired; I learned today that Ruth and Scalia were great friends, what an example they both were showing that politics shouldn't have to prevent friendship. Wish some of dh and my relatives could be the same.

  3. I too am saddened by RGB's passing. I am really hoping that the replacement process is held off since the election is quickly approaching. I like your advice of focusing on "three" things. Breaking things down often helps to feel less overwhelmed.

  4. What a wise idea, choosing just three things to try and make a difference about. I shall remember that.
