Potters of Madison County - part 2

 Ben Owen, of Seagrove pottery fame (if you watch PBS pottery shows, especially. his pots have been given when people pledge a certain amount of money to PBS during fundraisers.) His family have run the pottery in Seagrove for generations (I just looked it up...the family came from England in the 1700s and brought their pottery skills to NC, when large pottery jars were for storage of many home and industrial materials.)

We missed some of the potters who have been invited in the past...maybe they will be here again next year.

Potters of Madison County, part 1 of 2

 Becky Lloyd's wonderful sgraffito work is well known.

 Though I thought these patterns were decal work (and I probably still do) the potter assured me that he used tape and hand painted these glazes.  I didn't want to argue.  Some of it might be tape resist, but I've seen that honeycomb pattern before!

 And it was great to run into Amelia, another potter from our studio.

 The Permetiers are well known for their lamps and designs on their work.

 I really enjoyed these large sculptures...and didn't find out how they were done (or what kind of clay it was!)

 Joey Sheehan was busy talking with someone, so I didn't get to ask.

 Helen was delighted to see these flowers in tiny bowls. Anemones are all over the displays today.

 Yes, these are real flowers!

 But wait, wasn't I supposed to be looking at the pots!

This display was in a studio, where various wonderful dishes to eat for lunch were available to purchase. (I've covered them in another post.)

what to plant next...

I want to recycle all the plastic tubs of plants and use pottery/ceramic planters that I've made.

But which plants should go in which pots? Next decision.

 This can replace any one gallon pot easily.

 It's sister flew off the wheel just before I was going to trim it, so I bent it into a scalloped shape. 

And since I couldn't trim that extra 1/4 inch around the base, I fluted it to lighten the whole thing up.  Of course my planters havce to have good drainage.

And now I'm off for a bit of away time...but when I come back, I'll be purchasing seedlings! The usual last frost is Mother's Day around here.

Rabbit rabbit and more rabbits

 Largest bunny has grass around her, with a cotton tail showing, of course.

 Smallest bunny sits up to look over the world, with a stand that suggests grass.

The glaze is a thinned wash of Mayco Stroke and Coat black, then clear over everything. Grass is Stroke and Coat green or Jade. I love how the black thin wash turns brownish with clear glaze over it. It looks pretty rocky to me.

Here we all are at the Depot, waiting for someone who wants to take us home and enjoy feeding us smiles!
