Abe Lincoln in Hardin County, Kentucky, in 1809.
Charles Darwin, born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England (1809).
James Field Smathers in1888,was born near Valley Spring, Texas, who patented the electric typwriter in 1913...it took a few years before IBM started making them, and certainly a few more before I started using them thankfully!
Elizabeth Bettie Bass Rogers, born in 1860 in Old Waverly, San Jacinto County, Texas, my great grandmother on my father's side. She was widowed at 19 and had to raise her 3 year old and her 3 month old on her own. Within a few years she moved to the big city and bright lights of Galveston, TX, which was a big port city at the time. She lived to be 64 years old.
I'd love to know more about your GGM - did she eventually marry again? Also, beautiful header photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks for compliment! (yes, I checked to make sure I used the correct one!) And no, as far as statistical records go, Bettie Bass Rogers never remarried. But her children were raised in a second cousin's family as they were their guardians, at least some of their childhoods. But they were also on the Galveston census with Bettie at some times as well. You know how families do things in the south...and maybe in the north as well.
