I throw everything (even large...I love your posts! I throw everything (even large chunks..don't know if this is a good idea or not), into a big pail with water and once soft mush around...let it sit...squeeze and mush some more...and then eventually pour off the water from the top and plop handfuls of it onto a cement wall board. Seems to suck out the moisture really well.
