Challice gifts for moms

I was glad to be commissioned to make a couple of chalices for two expecting families.

Bringing light into the world seems very much a part of birthing...bringing a new life into the world. In Spanish you say "dar a luz" to give birth, give to light.

One completed, (r) and the other about to go in glaze kiln on left.
They are slightly different shapes. White stoneware clay, mid-range, with a light celadon glaze.
Here shown with votive candles, but we decided to go with 3 inch pillars.

It's hard to believe these are battery operated, as they are actually inside a wax body and they flicker!

Rev. Michael Carter (L) listens after the congregation gave a blessing and now a Religious Education leader gives the gifts.

Giving chalice gifts! What a great community I belong to. The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Swannanoa Valley (UUCSV)

On matters of style, swim with the current, but on matters of principle, stand like a rock.” — Thomas Jefferson, American Founding Father.

  1. Those are really lovely. I have one of those candles in the gallery, they really do look real... and much safer. I don't have to worry about blowing it out and it even has a timer.
