Christmas Past and Present

Our tree with many presents piled under it in 1953.

By 1957 I was in high school, and it looks like I was wearing stockings and low heels.  But my little sis and I still wore ear muffs! St. Louis seldom had a white Christmas.  For Dad to be dressed with his hat on, we must have been going to church, for one of his bi-annual visits.

One year I made a quilt for my youngest son for Christmas!

This is a batch of angels that I've been making for 2016 Christmas season...there were also some without lipstick but with red streamers as decoration.

My little hummingbird ornaments have been reduced to $6 each.

Just look at all those old "war time" cars! I think this was Houston in the 40s

A decade or so later, look at how cars had changed! And the crowd of shoppers waiting to get into Macy's in New York!

Osborne House
From Facebook: Vintage History - Britain
Christmas at the Osborne House in 1896. Queen Victoria’s marriage to the German Prince Albert introduced many Christmas traditions to Britain. Christmas trees became immensely popular after the ‘Illustrated London News’ published a drawing of the royal family celebrating around a decorated tree in 1848.

A family dinner gathered for a holiday!
From old home movies around 1948, the chef (Mom) is looking at the drumstick being held by someone who was carving the bird.

Gummy arrived with presents, wrapped loosely!

A bit out of focus, but there are the plates stacked ready for serving.

The food after being served!  I'm the little girl who has her hands in her lap while looking at all that food!

I'm sending wishes that all who may read this have a Happy Christmas and New Year, a Happy Hanukkah, Blessed Kwanza, and Bright Blessings for Solstice!

Sepia Saturday suggestion looks like this for this week:

  1. You're obviously a very talented person! I love the colorful quilt you made for your son. Actually, I simply love quilts. I don't know what it is about them, but they simply mean "cozy" the moment I see one. Your ceramics are always lovely, too! The angels are sweet.

  3. The 1940's Houston in fabulous. Love your ornaments and sorry you have to reduce the price of the hummingbirds. Is that a sign of the times? Hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

  4. With all due respect, I think hummingbirds are more wondrous than angels. And more likely to find in a fir tree.
