Marina's plates and bowls

Marina has become a good friend and I dearly love this lady who has such a positive outlook on life.

Bowls are done...2 with lady bugs.  Hope the 2 plates are ok.  But only one has been glaze fired.

And I've got a couple of slightly larger plates getting bisqued as we speak.  But it will be another week probably before the waiting plates are glaze fired....and then I want Marina to see them.

Plates take so long to get fired, the space in the kiln is used best by tall and medium size objects apparently.

So I've got things I'm holding back from putting to be glaze fired, in hopes that these little plates will get into the next kiln load.  I am fine with sharing each kiln load with lots of other students and members of our community studio...just why are they all making flat things at the same time I am?  Strange.  I need some voodoo or something to help them be interested in making maybe tall vases?

Well, whenever it happens, it happens.  I've learned that is the only way to wait for my turn.  I may be first in line, but the kiln gods are crazy.

Quote for today (I should find one about patience, shouldn't I?)

Art makes life bearable. It isn't a luxury. Like our capacity for understanding, and our experience of love, it is a vitally important part of life.

  1. that was one of my least favorite things in a community setting is waiting and waiting and then not knowing how it would turn out and should I do the same thing or change. beautiful plate; maybe the studio needs to invest in one of those plate stacker things

  2. I've thought of plate stackers too, Linda, but they would probably not work unless all the plates are the same size. I may make 4 at a time, but we are discouraged from doing "production" which plate stackers would certainly encourage!

  3. How lovely. I've always said ladybugs bring us luck!

    1. Thanks Karen, I like the idea of sharing good luck with others! I'm not an expert on insects, so mine always look a bit fake I'm afraid.

  4. Barbara, those plates are beautiful! I have plate stackers and they are handy. It still seems to take more time to get the flat things fired.

    1. Hi Michele...glad to hear from you in your busy schedule these days. Something about flat things just doesn't fill up a kiln.

  6. If you make tall things maybe the rest of the studio will also.

    1. That's so funny...I'm ROTFL. Well, not quite on the floor, but out loud anyway. As if I have any influence...mmm. Will think about that.

  7. The plate and bowl are both wonderful. Maybe they should add another kiln so things can be done more quickly.

    1. There are 2 kilns, and almost daily one is firing and the other cooling. No room for more. But sometimes the studio manager doesn't load as quickly as he might...thus things kind of back up. Well, his priorities aren't necessarily the same as mine...don't understand why not! (Just see what Lori just said about me!)
