Football vs. soccer

I'm not a fan of a football game, American style.
But I do watch a few soccer games, aka Football, world style.

Sepia Saturday invites submissions on this topic HERE.

And I just shared a delightful Saturday morning watching Liverpool vs. whoever that tied with them 0-0.  Uptown Bar, or pub, or whatever, has a great Saturday brunch and shows the games, for my youngest son, Tai and his friend, Keegan, who have a regular thing there.

  1. Good to see more fans of Liverpool! People are slow to post this week, maybe not too many sporting enthusiasts amongst us, but we'll see I guess.

    1. Hi Jo...glad to hear you like Liverpool. My son is definitely a fan, but I just go along with whoever he's cheering on!

  2. I think soccer people and American football people are kind of like dog people and cat people. Strong preferences abound! Me - American football has been my absolute favorite sport since I was ten years old & listened to the games on the radio with my mom & dad. Strangely, my brother was never particularly interested in the sport until later on. I even played it in the street with the boy up the street!

    1. Good for you being out playing football yourself. I admit to having played soccer on several levels, as well as being a "soccer mom" to all three of my boys.

  3. I'm not much of a sports fan but I learned to enjoy watching soccer when my younger son played.

    1. I was one of those Mom's screaming from the sidelines, but very glad to be there in case of injuries.

  4. Though I'm not a sports fan, I too can appreciate the fun others have gathering and cheering together.

    1. This pub wasn't a "sports bar" where everyone is divided between two teams and shouting together, but it was fairly subdued. Of course we made comments as to the progress of the game.

    1. I never have heard of the theory of soccer. Glad you love it.

  6. I can't follow football at all. I understand soccer better, but watching sports just isn't my thing

    1. It's only fun with someone who has more knowledge and enthusiasm than I do!

  7. I can watch college football for awhile but I don't care a lot. It is fun with a crowd though, at home or at a bar.

  8. I agree...it's the social part of watching sport that makes it fun. I once attended a basketball game at UCLA when I thought the arena would collapse from the cheering and foot stomping. It was thrilling. I would like to try watching soccer in a pub sometime.

    1. I have attended outdoor games occasionally, but never indoors. I imagine the level of noise would be much higher than almost unbearable in a stadium. Maybe it's my age...

  9. Sport ? I listen to the sports reports just sufficiently to pick up a couple of phrases which can later be thrown into a conversation so that I don;t look a complete ignoramus !

    1. All you have to do it know the name of the team someone is rooting for and say "How about those Bears (or whoever) !"

  11. Seems like there are a few of us non-sports fans around.

  12. At the moment it really could be Liverpool or whoever and the score would be 0-0. But I agree with many of the others, you can't beat watching football collectively.

    1. Now I'll confess to having crowd-a-phobia. Small groups are more to my taste. Keep me away from a stadium though!

  13. Barb, I did have to laugh. My cousin and her son are avid football fans --- and do take in the betting pools. One time she sent me a picture of her and her son at the sports bar/pub. Could have been a ringer for one of your pics. Enjoyed your pics and commentary.

    1. That's great, to share laughter over the web. I've been around betting avid fans but they were college football fans...and very interested in drinking and shouting!

  14. Very clever! The pint of stout for brunch makes it more authentic too.

  15. I ate at a restaurant that had a faux lumberjack theme. They had tvs in every single corner playing the same thing over and over again. To top if off the food was terrible. I had low expectations because it was a chain restaurant, but this went beyond bad. It was the worst "sports" bar I've ever been in.
