...from the experiences of a volunteer.
| Some pictures are from the free brochures given to the public. |
| Here I am sitting to welcome visitors as they walk into one of the three galleries upstairs. |
| The front entrance is pretty (I think) |
| The Mountain to the Sea Trail goes right by the Folk Art Center |
| Walk along a gradual rise past those stone walls |
| And you see some steps (or the ramp on the far right) |
| As you go through these doors, you have to put your camera away. |
| To your right in the lobby is the National Forest Service information desk (and a small shop with park items) |
| The Allanstand Craft Shop is full of beautiful items, with a ramp going up to the galleries. You would be standing in the far distance of this picture as you come inside. (special permission was given for these pictures from upstairs overlooking the store) |
| The Guild staff have offices on the second floor (you can see Faye to the left among the quilts) |
| When you get almost to the top of the ramp, you'll see a small furniture display to the right |
Then there are some educational panels about different kinds of craft materials and free handouts (You can see the title of the current Main Gallery exhibit over the top of the panels as you walk around the bend) Or you may chose to walk up a few steps on your right to visit the Focus Gallery which usually shows only 2 artists' work at a time.

There is a permanent exhibit of historic crafts in yet a third gallery, with handy self-guides to describe all the beautiful work of our ancestors in these highlands.

One of my favorite places, which few visitors ever take advantage of. The Library collection about Crafts...all kinds of crafts!
Deborah is my friendly helper whenever I have questions.
My challenge...to read all the books about ceramics....most of the ones on this row. | | | | |

In case you come to visit and my head is buried in a book, and I'm busy taking notes in my sketch book, I appologize in advance. It might happen. This is the food my soul seeks to fuel my inspiration.
When the Guild notices they may ask me to give up my post. But at least the library is still available for the public (for research, nothing may leave the building).
And another great event held by the Southern Highlands Craft Guild is the Craft Fair, in the spring and again in the fall, downtown in Asheville. Please come see the indoor event. It's amazing.
